No amnesty for Boko Haram militants- Presidency

Dr Reuben Abati
Dr Reuben Abati
Nigeria Presidency said on Saturday that contrary to recent reports, President Goodluck Jonathan has not declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram militant sect.
Reuben Abati, special adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity told reporters at the Presidential Villa that the claim that President Jonathan had decided to grant amnesty to members of Boko Haram who agreed to abandon the insurgent group is false.
Boni Haruna, the Minister of Youth Development had at an event organised to mark the Democracy Day in Abuja last Thursday said the federal government will grant amnesty to members of the insurgent group who agree to abandon their violent ways.
The Minister consequently on behalf of the Federal Government, called on the members of the Boko Haram sect to embrace the government’s gesture and key-in to amnesty programme.”
However, the Presidential spokesperson said while the government is not offering members of the insurgent group amnesty, the government had lined up series of integration programmes for the members of Boko Haram that are willing to surrender their arms and embrace peace.
While making reference to the Democracy Day nationwide broadcast by the President, Abati said the President never used the term amnesty.
“In that speech, if you look at it, I don’t think the President used amnesty, instead he spoke about those who are willing to renounce terrorism; those who are willing to embrace peace, opportunities have been created for them through the fact-finding committee, through the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolutions of Conflict in the North Eastern part of Nigeria. So I will refer you basically to the speech by the President.”

Beyoncé Steps Out with Jay Z After Alleged Affair Reports with Bodyguard

http://beyonce-contour.com/
Mr & Mrs Carter are clearly above the rumours.
Ever since the elevator fight between Jay Z and Solange Knowles, the media has been zooming in onBeyoncé and Hova’s relationship, because in the clip it seems she doesn’t care about the fight.
In case you’ve missed the buzz on social media, Star Magazine reported a few days ago that Queen Bey is cheating on Jay Z with her bodyguard Julius De Boer, who was also seen in the elevator fight video.
The magazine is fond of reporting its “exclusive stories”. Last year, they claimed through sources that the couple are about to divorce.
“Jay definitely thinks that there was and may still be something romantic going on between Bey and Julius,” a source told the publication. “He wanted to fire Julius last February, but Beyoncé said, ‘Julius isn’t going anywhere.’”
“They’ve spent a lot of time together behind closed doors, he’ even stayed in her hotel room” the source continued.
Putting the rumours to rest, the couple stepped out together – without Julius, but with another bodyguard – earlier today Saturday 31st May 2014.
This isn’t the first time, rumours of Bey’s affair with Julius has surfaced. In 2009, she was photographed leaving a hotel in Berlin with her mouth covered, while Julius’ lips was allegedly smeared with red lipstick.

Does Porn Affect The Brain? Scientists urge more study

Scientist in a lab

Researchers found less gray matter in the brains of men who watched large amounts of sexually explicit material, according to a new study.
AFP reports that the research, which appeared Wednesday in the journal JAMA Psychiatry, could not determine if porn actually caused the brain to shrink however, and the authors called for additional study on the topic.
“Future studies should investigate the effects of pornography longitudinally or expose naive participants to pornography and investigate the causal effects over time,” said researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, Germany.
The institute recruited 64 male subjects aged 21-45, “with a broad range of pornography consumption.”
The men were not told initially that the research was monitoring their brains on porn, rather that it was “a scientific study including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measurements.”
The men were told during a later phone interview that questions about pornography would be part of the research, and none dropped out.
The men filled out surveys, describing how much porn they watched. Their responses averaged a little more than four hours per week.
Their brains were scanned with MRI technology while they were shown sexually explicit images from porn websites, along with non-sexual images of people exercising.
“Our findings indicated that gray matter volume of the right caudate of the striatum is smaller with higher pornography use,” said the study.
Furthermore, when sexually explicit material was shown, the men’s MRIs showed diminished function in a part of the brain that processes motivation.
But were men with smaller striatums seeking more porn, or did more porn make the brain smaller? Was it a consequence, or a precondition?
“Individuals with lower striatum volume may need more external stimulation to experience pleasure and might therefore experience pornography consumption as more rewarding, which may in turn lead to” more porn watching, said the authors, concluding that more study is needed.

24 dead after Boko Haram attacks military, police base

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen
Suspected Boko Haram gunmen
Suspected Boko Haram gunmen attacked the military and police in the northeast Nigerian town of Buni Yadi, where the group massacred scores of students earlier this year, witnesses said on Tuesday.
Multiple witnesses told AFP that the insurgents stormed the remote town at 8:00 pm (1900 GMT) on Monday, firing first on soldiers manning a checkpoint and razing the local police station.
They then torched the home of local government leader and several government buildings before turning their guns on an empty primary school, said witness Kura Babagana.
“When they started attacking, people began to flee,” he said. “There were casualties on the part of the security personnel but I don’t know how many.”
Scores of vehicles were also burnt during the attack, he added, an account supported by other witnesses including Buni Ibrahim, a trader who was in the town at the time.
Residents said the victims include 13 soldiers and 11 police officers.
Details were slow to emerge because of poor mobile phone reception in the area, where the Islamists have destroyed much of the telecommunication infrastructure.
Buni Yadi falls in Yobe state, one of the areas that has been worst-affected during Boko Haram’s bloody five-year uprising, which has killed thousands.
In February, more than 40 students were shot and hacked to death when suspected Boko Haram gunmen stormed the town’s Federal Government College.
Yobe, along with the northeastern states of Borno and Adamawa, have been an under a state of emergency for more than a year.
The latest attack came as Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, said the military had located more than 200 schoolgirls held hostage by the militant Islamist group, although he warned that an armed rescue mission could prove fatal for the hostages.
With the prospects of a military rescue uncertain, a number of initiatives to negotiate for the girls release are ongoing.

'I can't deliver your letter to Boko Haram leader' - First Lady tells kids

Some Nigerian children who paid a courtesy visit to First Lady Patience Jonathan today in Abuja to mark the Children's Day celebration seized the opportunity to hand her letters they wrote to Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau protesting the abduction of the Chibok girls and asked the First Lady to pass the letter to him.
Mama Peace received the letter but immediately told the children that she doesn't know who Shekau is but would give their letters to the Chief of Defence Staff who would help deliver it accordingly..
"Let me thank the children that gave me letter to give Boko Haram. Well, I have received your letter, but I’m not the one to give it to Boko Haram because I don’t know Boko Haram and I have never seen Boko Haram. But I will give it to NSA or Chief of Defence Staff who will submit your letter accordingly. To my children parliament, thank you for your letter. Thank you for your deliberation. I have received what you gave to me. I will make sure I pass it to the president because it is addressed to him and the other one is addressed to Boko Haram. That is why the two are different.” she said
Mama Peace advised the children and Nigerians in general to desist from speaking evil or reigning abuses on the President, saying he is the head of the country as God has made him so. She drew her advice from the bible
"It is bad to abuse our country and the president because God has made him the head. The almighty God commands us to pray for our leaders. We therefore need to pray for the development of our country and the president.
Remember that a child that abuses his father and mother is disobeying God’s commandment because the bible says in Exodus 20:12 that you should honour your father and mother so that you may live long in the land that the Lord your God has given you. The holy Bible is not referring to only biological parents. Any one that is older than you even for a day must be respected. Let us therefore join hands and rebuild our country Nigeria” she advised

Boko Haram kills 20 in another village raid

Boko Haram leader: Abubakar Shekau
Boko Haram leader: Abubakar Shekau
Suspected Boko Haram gunmen stormed a Christian village in northeastern Nigeria, killing 20 residents, a government spokesman said Monday.
The heavily armed gunmen stormed Waga village in Adamawa state on Sunday and opened fire, Ahmed Soji said.
“The gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents in trucks and on motorcycles attacked the village where they killed 20 people and burnt several houses,” Soji said.
“The whereabouts of several other people are still unknown but it is assumed they fled into the bush to escape the attack and are yet to return,” he said.
A second attack by the marauding gunmen on nearby Gublak village was repelled by soldiers in the area, Soji said without saying if there were casualties in the shootout.
Adamawa state, which is one of three states under emergency law along with Borno and Yobe, has seen a string of deadly Boko Haram attacks.
In February, the group killed 34 people and burnt scores of homes in coordinated bombing and shooting attacks on Michika, Kirchiga and Shuwa towns near the border with Borno state.
At least 24 people were killed on Sunday when Boko Haram gunmen raided Kumuta village in Borno State, where the Islamists have stepped up deadly attacks on villages in recent months.
According to residents, dozens of motorcycle-riding gunmen stormed the village after sunrise as locals were heading to the weekly market, opening fire on residents.
The militants, who have claimed the abduction of more than 200 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno state six weeks ago, have recently intensified their attacks in the state’s countryside, raiding villages where they kill residents, loot food supplies and set fire to homes.

Supreme Court orders lawyer to pay N8m fine to Delta state governor

The Supreme Court today Monday May 26th ordered Dr Dickson Osuala to pay N8million fine to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta and 3 others for abuse of court process, PM News reports.
Osuala was counsel to Chief Great Ogboru, candidate of the Democratic People’s Party in the 2011 Delta governorship election. Other parties in the N8 million cost are the PDP, INEC, and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) who are to get N2million each.
Osuala‎ had, on behalf of his client, applied for a review of the court’s judgement which in 2013 upheld the election of Uduaghan of the PDP. He had claimed in his application that, Section 285 (7) of the 1999 Constitution which the Supreme Court relied on to dismiss the case, was “fraudulently inserted by the National Assembly”.
He argued that due process was not followed by the National Assembly on the section.
The counsel, therefore, submitted that it was wrong for the apex court to have relied on it to dismiss his client’s case in 2013.

Delivering his ruling, Justice Walter Onoghen blamed Osuala for not advising his client rightly and embarking on a clear case of gross abuse of the court process.
“The said N8 million is awarded as cost against the person of Dr. Dickson Osuala and is to be paid from his pocket to the respondents.
“The plaintiff, through his counsel, wants to resurrect a dead and buried horse.
“The plaintiff’s counsel should advise his client to take his case to heaven if he is not satisfied with the court’s ruling,” he said.
Onoghen said it was not the business of the court to amend the constitution, but that of the national assembly.

He advised him to go to the National Assembly or the Federal High Court to challenge the section of the constitution which he considered defective.

Osuala rejected the advice, adding that nobody should be allowed to benefit from a defective law.
NAN reports that Ogboru had twice applied for a review of the judgement but the Supreme Court had turned down his prayer on both occasions.

We know where Chibok girls are, but won't use force to rescue them - Military

Nigeria's Chief of Defense Staff Air Marshall Alex Badeh today said that the Nigeria military has been able to locate the 200+ girls abducted in Chibok on April 14th but will not use force to rescue them because that could put the girls in great danger as the insurgents could kill them.

He revealed this today while addressing a group of protesters, the Citizens Initiative for Security Awareness, outside the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. He said the military knows what they are doing and should be allowed to continue their work
"We want our girls back. The military can do it, but where they are held, can we go with force? The good news for the girls is that we know where they are but we can't tell you. Just leave us alone. We are working. We will bring the girls back" He said
